National Embryo Donation Center Announces 500th Baby Celebration, Chance to Reconnect with 'Facebook Families'

In late May of 2015, a married couple –Dan and Kate, both physicians at a leading medical institution who prefer not to reveal their surnames- welcomed William into the world. He was the 500th successful birth to come about as a result of the NEDC's embryo donation and adoption program.
"Embryo adoption is a gift we give thanks for every day," said Dan. All told, the couple has given birth to three children via embryo adoption after learning years ago that they would not be able to have genetic children of their own. "It was devastating. I really wanted the chance to carry our babies, bond with them and give them the best possible start," said Kate. "Being able to carry them myself and to bond with them through embryo donation healed a lot of hurt."
The celebration will be held at First Baptist Concord (11704 Kingston Pike) from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and will feature food, a bounce house, carousel, deejay, family photo booth, games and more. Between 250 and 300 people are registered to attend, many of them families who have donated embryos or given birth to children adopted as embryos through the NEDC's program.
The celebration will also be an opportunity for the media to catch up with the Watts and Galloway families. Together, both families made news months ago when Angel and Jeff Watts posted a plea on Facebook in the hopes that someone would adopt their six remaining embryos. Rayn and Richard Galloway responded and were chosen to adopt the embryos. Though the Galloways' pregnancy was ultimately not sustained, the couple is still working with the NEDC in the hopes of a better outcome in the future. *The Galloway and Watts families will be available to conduct interviews from 11:30 to noon and from 12:30 to approximately 1:00 only on the day of the event.*
