WOODSTOCK, Va., Aug. 18, 2025 /Standard Newswire/ — The following is submitted by Bradley G. Pollack, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Marine Corps Reserve, Retired:
In 2021, the then woke Virginia State Board of Community Colleges threw out the name of Patrick Henry Community College.
In 1774, Patrick Henry served as a delegate to the First Continental Congress, where he drafted the Petition to the King.
In 1775, Patrick Henry declared "Give me liberty or give me death!" Henry was a follower of Christ and a man of faith. His Christian faith was a driving force in his life, motivating him to fight for liberty and social justice.
Patrick Henry gained further popularity among the people of Virginia by marching troops towards the colonial capital of Williamsburg after the Gunpowder Incident until the munitions seized by the King's troops were paid for.
Henry urged independence, and when the Virginia Convention endorsed this in 1776, he served on the committee charged with drafting the Virginia Declaration of Rights and the Virginia Constitution.
A Founding Father, Patrick Henry was promptly elected governor under the new charter and served a total of five one-year terms. Henry is remembered as an enthusiastic promoter of the fight for independence.
In 2025, every member of the State Board of Community Colleges has been appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin. The Chairman of the Board, Dr. Michael Eric Wooten, is a black retired Marine Corps Major who favors restoring the name of Patrick Henry Community College. But Chairman Wooten is surely not going to do so until Governor Youngkin, the 74th Governor of Virginia, asks him to restore the name of Governor Patrick Henry, the 1st Governor of Virginia.
So, please call Governor Youngkin at 804-786-2211 or contact him at https://www.governor.virginia.gov/communicating-with-the-governors-office/.
If this happens, surely President Trump will come to the rededication, as Patrick Henry is a favorite of President Trump.
Thank you and Semper Fidelis,
