Steven Mosher to Testify at Congressional Hearing: 'Ban Sex-Selection Abortion'

Contact: Colin Mason, Population Research Institute, 540-305-9985

FRONT ROYAL, Va., Dec. 1, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ -- On Tuesday, December 6th, Steven W. Mosher will testify in favor of a proposed ban on sex- and race-selective abortions before the Subcommittee on the Constitution of the House Committee on the Judiciary. Mosher, the President of the Population Research institute, is an internationally recognized demographer and authority on China's one-child policy, which has resulted in the abortion and infanticide of tens of millions of Chinese infant girls.

The hearing will address the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, which would prohibit knowingly performing or financing sex-selection or race-selection abortions. It will convene at 1 p.m. in Room 2141 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

"Sex-selection abortions are occurring in the U.S.," says Mosher, "For example, there are unusually high percentages of boys being born to Asian-American families, suggesting that some unborn girls are being eliminated in utero."

This hearing is open to the public. More information, including a full roster of speakers, can be found on the Committee's web site here: judiciary.house.gov/hearings/calendar.html.
