Bob Fu on Four Rights Defenders Detained in Heilongjiang
Contact: Bob Fu, President, China Aid, 267-205-5210 cell, 432-689-6985, info@ChinaAid.org

MIDLAND, Texas, March 28, 2014 /Standard Newswire/ -- "To arbitrarily kidnap and detain those courageous human rights lawyers is a direct violation of China's own laws and the international mandate for the protection of lawyers' rights while defending their clients," Pastor Bob Fu, China Aid founder and president said in reference to the four human rights defenders who were forcibly taken from their hotel room Friday morning.

The four were detained because of their efforts to seek justice for their clients, Falun Gong practitioners, who are serving time in a black jail in China's northeastern Heilongjiang province.

Two of the lawyers, Tang Jitian and Jiang Tianyong, were sentenced to 15-days of administrative detention on Saturday for "utilizing cult activities to harm society." Whereabouts of the other lawyers, Wang Cheng and Zhang Junjie, are currently unknown.

"It is even more laughable to charge those lawyers with a fabricated 'evil cult' charge when they were trying to help expose the local government's illegal black jail," Fu, who knows some of the detained lawyers, said.

"The Chinese government needs to immediately release these lawyers and allow their legal representatives to meet and defend them without any hindrance. Otherwise, there will be serious foreseeable social consequences. We call upon the leaders of the free world to speak up for the freedom of these jailed rights defense lawyers."
