Rocky Mountain Hackathon Seeks to Mobilize Christians to Use Technology for the Kingdom

Contact: Chris Wynn, 720-283-2000, c.wynn@worldventure.com

LITTLETON, Colo., Oct. 28, 2015 /Standard Newswire/ -- WorldVenture and Code for the Kingdom will be hosting a faith-based hackathon in the rocky mountain region on November 6th-8th at Colorado Christian University. Simply put, a hackathon is a 48 hour "hacking" marathon where coders, developers, designers, and technologists come together to collaboratively tackle global challenges from a Christian perspective.

Code for the Kingdom, a Leadership Network initiative, has already mobilized more than 1,000 technologists in the U.S. and abroad who have worked on over 100 different projects to propel Christian initiatives forward. These events provide a space for passionate technologists to not just network, but also collaboratively create solutions for real problems that Christians are facing around the world.

"One of the issues I've seen time and time again is that Christian technologists can't use their gifts beyond running the PowerPoint slides during church worship services," says Chris Wynn, Director of Communications at WorldVenture and a co-organizer of the event. "This hackathon is an opportunity to 'come and do' instead of 'come and listen' like most conferences geared toward this demographic."

The challenges and their respective champion organizations are as follows:

  • Disrupting Online Human Trafficking - WorldVenture

  • Global Evangelism in a Dangerous World - Faith Comes By Hearing

  • Expanding Affordable Power in Africa - LUMI

  • Localized Online Outreach for Colorado - Global Focus Media, Jesus.net, South Fellowship Church

  • Group Prayer Walk App - Global Focus Media, WorldVenture

  • Media Library Box & UI Projects - OM International

  • Sponsored Calls for Listening to the Gospel - Code for the Kingdom

  • Fulfilling Needs App for Faith Communities Around the Country - Church Community Builder

Based on which challenge(s) participants want to work on, teams will form and work together throughout the weekend. The event concludes when teams present their finished projects to a panel of judges, and prizes will be awarded to the winners of several categories.

Registration is free and includes all food and drink for the weekend. For more information and to register, visit worldventure.com/hackathon. For questions, please contact Chris Wynn at (720) 283-2000 or c.wynn@worldventure.com.
