Christian Nonprofit Working with Educators to Develop Curriculum

Contact: Taylor Hall, Water Missions International, 803-543-8733

CHARLESTON, S.C., Jan. 24, 2013 /Standard Newswire/ -- Water Missions International has launched the Educators' Think Tank, comprised of current and former educators, with the mission of educating today's youth about the global water crisis. The Educators' Think Tank has 10 current and former teachers, administrators and staff from throughout the country with expertise in teaching and best practices for integrating new curriculum.

Over the past year, the Think Tank has been working to develop a lesson plan, entitled Lessons in a Bucket, focusing on teaching children from Kindergarten through 6th grade about the importance of safe water worldwide. Lessons in a Bucket uses innovative teaching methods to educate children about the global need for safe water, the science behind delivering safe water to a community, the importance of water conservation and dozens of other topics.

Educators' Think Tank founder, Jane Talbot, said of the initiative, "Educating students about the reality of the global water crisis and showing them actionable steps to be a part of the solution is the main priority of Lessons in a Bucket. We, as educators, can start a conversation that has the potential to change the course of history. Lessons in a Bucket is the springboard for those conversations."

Piloted last spring in 10 Charleston-area schools, Lessons in a Bucket had an overwhelmingly positive response from both teachers and students. With its official launch in 2013, Lessons in a Bucket will be part of the curriculum in 29 Charleston-area schools.

Additionally, education professors at the College of Charleston, Trident Technical College and Charleston Southern University are using Lessons in a Bucket to further awareness about the global water crisis. These professors are working with the Educators' Think Tank to equip tomorrow's teachers with tools to educate students about the global issues facing our future leaders.
