We Shall Praise Your Name Breathes New Life into the Liturgy of the Hours

PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 13, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ -- Internationally renowned composer and authors, Christopher Walker and Paule Freeburg, D.C. have once again fulfilled a catechetical need of the Catholic church with their newest OCP-published collection celebrating the Liturgy of the Hours, We Shall Praise Your Name.

Created with teachers, catechists and liturgical ministers in mind, Walker/Freeburg's one-of-a-kind resource offers a fresh and accessible way to introduce one of the Church's most ancient traditions--the Liturgy of the Hours.

"Christian daily prayer is a tradition that the Second Vatican Council encouraged us to reclaim and renew. This collection provides a practical and engaging way to help young people--and, in fact, all generations--to experience the spiritual grace of ritual daily prayer" says Tom Tomaszek, Director of Artists & Repertoire for OCP.

The 25 prayer services in We Shall Praise Your Name span the liturgical seasons and specifically address themes like "Creation," "Discipleship," "Prayers for the Sick," "Prayers for Those Who Have Died" and more. Additionally, psalms and readings, adapted from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible, feature theme-specific musical responses that can be sung with or without accompaniment.

Associate Director of Artist Relations and Product Development Barbara Bridge says, "not only is this resource useful for introducing children to the psalms and the prayer of the Church, the prayer book makes an excellent addition to parishes, schools, RCIA groups and retreats."

While the prayer services were crafted to be sung a cappella, the We Shall Praise Your Name collection features an accompaniment book with keyboard arrangements and guitar chords as well as a CD containing instrumental tracks and recordings of two complete services.

The prayer book ($6.00) and accompaniment book ($15.00) are available at ocp.org. The CD ($20.00) will be available in early, 2012.
