Though fiction, Left Behind's underlying theology is considered to be true by millions of evangelical Christians. The "pre-tribulation" misinterpretation of these texts entered Christianity through British theologian John Nelson Darby (1800-1882), through the footnotes of the Scofield Reference Bible, and then later through Bible colleges like the Dallas Theological Seminary.
