ARLINGTON, Va., Feb. 4 /Standard Newswire/ -- U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign today announced that former California Governor George Deukmejian has endorsed John McCain for president.

"John McCain understands the gravity of the challenges our country is facing," said Governor Deukmejian. "His lifetime of service has prepared him to lead as commander in chief from day one. John McCain has a commonsense conservative plan to stimulate our economy by lowering taxes, reforming our health care system, and ending the wasteful spending in Washington. I have a great deal of faith in him, and I know that John McCain will serve our nation well as president."

John McCain thanked Governor Deukmejian for his support, saying, "I am grateful to George for his support. He devoted his life to serving others, and I am honored that he would choose to join us as we work towards victory on Tuesday."

Governor George Deukmejian was born and raised in New York. He earned his law degree from St. John's University and practiced law before joining the U.S. Army. After his service overseas, Deukmejian founded a law practice in Southern California. Prior to being elected Governor, Deukmejian served as a State Assemblyman, State Senator, and Attorney General.
