EDMUND, Okla., Jan. 8, 2014 /Standard Newswire/ -- A Satanist group in this traditional Bible-Belt area sent shock waves through local citizens when they unveiled designs for a 7-foot-tall statue of Satan they want placed at the Oklahoma State Capitol. This is the same place where a Ten Commandments monument was placed in 2012.

In a culture that has become so pluralistic that even Satanist groups are demanding equal space and time, at least one ex-Satanist isn't amused. Michael Leehan tells how dabbling in the occult and Satanism opens us up to a far darker side that often ends in death.

The author of Ascent from Darkness says we have the American Civil Liberties Union to thank for much of the systematic dismantling of Christian icons in this country.  "The cracks that Satan had made in my soul were starting to fissure, and my emotional lifeblood was seeping out," says Leehan. "I was being pulled into a dark and desperate, emotionless void, with a heart and soul dying for lack of light. On the inside I was lost, hopeless and without direction, and certain I was the one soul who was beyond the reach of God. I felt hopeless," says Leehan.

The statue in Oklahoma City shows Satan sitting in a pentagram-adorned throne with smiling children next to him. Leehan says this is an evil beyond comprehension explaining that Satan has always tried to destroy that which God holds most dear. The statue is a chair where people can sit "next to Satan" along with the smiling children.

Leehan spent twenty years in a troubled journey through depression, cutting, ritual sacrifices, channeling and finally a plan to murder the pastor of a major church in Oklahoma City. "I knew something was missing.  I was increasingly seeking something I felt I didn't have. I knew I was tired of the life I lived: the hate, the negative thoughts, the lack of feeling love, the numbness and aimlessness. There seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Hopelessness was constant. My thoughts went from darker to darker, resulting in my actions becoming darker." Eventually, however, Leehan did leave Satanism and his life has never been the same. He credits God's tenacious love and a handful of faithful Christian friends who helped him walk through times of great anguish.
