World Congress of Families Says D.C. March Showed Overwhelming Support for Marriage

WASHINGTON, March 28, 2013 /Standard Newswire/ -- World Congress of Families (WCF) was proud to be a co-sponsor of the March 26th  March for Marriage in Washington, D.C. where more than 10,000 pro-marriage citizens and a coalition of more than 45 organizations from across the country and from every walk of life marched and rallied peacefully.

WCF Managing Director Larry Jacobs, who was present, said the march "showed overwhelming support for the natural family and marriage as the union of a man and a woman because every child deserves a mom and a dad."

Jacobs noted, "The march -- which is intended to be an annual event, like the March For Life -- took on special significance as the U.S. Supreme Court began oral arguments on the constitutionality of California's Proposition 8 and the 1996 Federal Defense of Marriage Act, the outcome of which could have an impact comparable to Roe v. Wade in 1973."

Despite recent opinion polls, Jacobs reminds us that defense of marriage amendments have been passed by popular vote in a majority of states -- often by two-to-one-margins.

"Will marriage continue to be defined by tradition, faith, and science -- with the overwhelming support of the American people -- or will political and media elites manipulate the judiciary to achieve a spurious definition in the name of 'equality' to the detriment of children and families?" Jacobs asked.

Jacobs congratulated "March for Marriage" organizer, Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage (a World Congress of Families Partner), as well as other WCF Partners among the co-sponsors  - Concerned Women for America, Human Life International, Family Research Council, Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute, Focus on the Family's CitizenLink, and Tradition, Family & Property in resisting efforts to deconstruct marriage -- the foundation of the natural family and civilization.

To continue this defense of marriage, we invite supporters of the pro-family movement to join thousands of delegates at the World Congress of Families VII (May 15-18, 2013) in Sydney, Australia.  The Congress will include sessions on: "The Impact on Children of Legalizing 'Same-Sex Marriage,'" and "Winning the Pro-Family Legislative Battles."  To register or for more information about World Congress of Families VII Sydney 2103, click here: wcfsydney2013.org.au
