WASHINGTON, June 19, 2015 /Standard Newswire/ -- The Reverend Dr. Rob Schenck, who serves as chairman of the Evangelical Church Alliance, America's oldest association of independent Evangelical ministers, missionaries, and military chaplains, and the Reverend Patrick J. Mahoney, executive member of the National Clergy Council, will today travel from Washington, DC to Charleston, SC, to meet with church leaders there and to hold a prayer service and news conference near the Mother Emmanuel Church. (Exact location TBA later today.) They will be hosted by Charleston native and pastor, the Reverend Phillip Pinckney. Joining the group will be South Carolina based African American church leader the Reverend Dr. Johnny Hunter of the nationwide Life, Education and Resource Network (L.E.A.R.N.)

Schenck and Mahoney will address the need of principally white Evangelical churches to deal with questions of racism and gun violence in American culture.

Schenck and Mahoney are featured in a current full-length nationally released documentary, the Armor of Light, dealing with gun violence and race in America, directed by award winning filmmaker Abigail Disney. Mrs. Lucy McBath, whose son Jordan Davis, was killed outside a convenience store in Jacksonville, FL, is also featured in the film and will appear at the Saturday morning news conference and prayer service.

Schenck and Mahoney are available for comment. Contact Melinda Ronn, 917-743-7836.
