SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 23 /Standard Newswire/ -- Unity Care Group Inc is proud to announce that from 6-9 PM at James Lick High School on August 30th they will host an multimedia showcase of music, film, digital and print media produced by the foster care youth of the Focus Media Project. The Focus Media Project is a summer program designed to give youth an opportunity to express their creative ideas and life perspectives using various elements of media and technology.

The program is managed by Demone Carter, Program Manager at Unity Care. "We felt it was important for youth to be able to tell their stories and learn about the power of media."

Unity Care, located in the heart of the technology mecca, ensures that urban youth have consistent access to these tools.

James Lick's award wining principal, Glenn Vanderzee, has always been a consistent and strong supporter of Unity Care's programs, as a result he invited the youth from the Focus Media Project to display their skills using James Lick's state of the art media lab. "JLHS is the natural place to hold such an event for we have made it our goal to become the center for San Jose's youth to develop their skills in electronic media and journalism." Keynote speakers include KPIX Channel 5 news anchor Joe Vasquez and Hip-Hop Chess Federation co-founder, Adisa Banjoko speaking about the beauty and benefits of staying dedicated to the journalistic path.

"Too often society assumes that youth from underserved communities do not posses the necessary skills to successfully navigate our world of technology," says Andre Chapman, CEO and Founder of Unity Care Group. "These youth are so resilient and able to adapt and learn in any environment. It's about how we engage them in the learning process that determines their success," Chapman continues "Our nation can no longer afford to under-invest in the potential of every individual – no matter their economic status or color of their skin."

About Unity Care: The Unity Care Group is a community-based, non-profit youth development agency. Founded with the goal of developing educational and social programs to enrich the lives of at-risk youth, our mission is to provide quality youth programs for creating healthier communities through life-long partnerships.
