WASHINGTON, Aug. 3, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ -- Ethnic cleansing and a new humanitarian crisis in Sudan will be the topic of a congressional hearing Thursday to be held by Congressman Chris Smith (NJ-04), chairman of the House congressional panel that oversees international human rights and African issues.
The Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights will hear testimony from humanitarian organizations working in Sudan who will detail the crisis, including killings and mass displacement. The hearing, entitled "Southern Kordofan: Ethnic Cleansing and Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan," will expose ethnic cleansing of the Nuba people from this area of Sudan, and how the crisis will negatively impact the new nation of South Sudan created only last month.
