World Congress of Families Appalled by Administration's Misuse of Tax Dollars to Fund Supporters of Pro-Abortion Kenyan Constitution
Contact: Don Feder, World Congress of Families, 508-405-1337, dfeder@rcn.com

ROCKFORD, Ill., July 16 /Standard Newswire/ -- World Congress of Families Managing Director Larry Jacobs called the revelation that the Obama Administration has pumped tax dollars into Kenyan groups campaigning for a pro-abortion Constitution "nothing short of outrageous."

On August 4, Kenyans will vote on a new Constitution which contains a mechanism essentially allowing abortion-on-demand, notwithstanding overwhelming pro-life sentiment among the Kenyan public.

According to information that Congressmen Chris Smith, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Darrell Issa received from the Office of the Inspector General of the US Agency for International Development, USAID has given grants totaling at least $680,000 to groups working to turn out the "yes" (pro-abortion) vote in the referendum. That's what has been documented so far. It's believed the total is actually closer to $10 million.

Jacobs charged that not only was this illegal but hypocritical. "Grants to groups working to pass the new Constitution clearly violate the Siljander Amendment, which provides that no USAID or State Department funds 'may be used to lobby for or against abortion,'" Jacobs observed.

"The Obama Administration claims that it's appalled by past U.S. interference in the internal affairs of other nations," Jacobs disclosed. "And yet, when it comes to promoting the president's political agenda, the Obama administration wades waist deep into Kenyan politics."

Jacobs disclosed that the World Congress of Families is in the process of collecting the signatures of pro-life and pro-family leaders around the world on a petition "In Support of The 'No' Campaign and Kenyans Opposed To The Pro-Abortion Constitution."

"And we're doing it without tax dollars," the WCF Managing Director added.
