Groups Ask Justice Dept. to Enforce Abortion Ban at NJ Clinic

Contact:  Christian Defense Coalition, 202-547-1735, 540-538-4741 cell

ENGLEWOOD, New Jersey, April 19 /Standard Newswire/ -- Pro-life activists will call for the Department of Justice to enforce the ban on partial-birth abortion at a news conference in front of a New Jersey late term abortion clinic.

News Conference Details ---

When:  Thursday, April 19, 10:00 A.M

Where:  Metropolitan Medical Associate, 40 Engle St., Englewood, NJ

Why:  To call for the Department of Justice to enforce the ban on partial-birth abortion.  The Christian Defense Coalition and Expectant Mother Care will also discuss the implications of Wednesday's historic Supreme Court Decision supporting a federal ban on partial-birth abortion.

The news conference will be on Thursday, April 19, at 10:00 A.M. at Metropolitan Medical Associate, 40 Engle St., in Englewood, New Jersey.  The clinic is located right outside of New York City.

Groups see this as the beginning of the overturning of the Roe v. Wade decision and also inserts abortion and the make-up of the Supreme Court back into the forefront of Presidential politics.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition states, "Clearly, this decision paves the way for the eventual overturning of Roe v. Wade.  Our hope is that the Department of Justice will move aggressively to ensure the bipartisan banning of this barbaric procedure is immediately enforced.  We have chosen this clinic to hold our news conference because it has been reported that Metropolitan Medical Associate did over 1,500 late term abortions a year.

"This partial-birth decision also moves abortion and the composition of the Supreme Court back to the forefront of Presidential politics.  There is no doubt this decision would not have been reached if Sandra Day O'Connor were still on the bench instead of Samuel Alito.  If President Bush gets an opportunity to nominate another Supreme Court Justice, he could shape the direction of the court for a generation to come.  Also, that next appointment may be the 'swing' vote in overturning Roe."

"It also shows the great difference among the Presidential candidates regarding partial-birth abortion.  Sadly, both Senator Obama and Senator Clinton have strongly disagreed with today's court decision.  In doing so, they have shown themselves to be outside the mainstream of what America feels about partial-birth abortion and they have also shown a profound disrespect for human rights and social justice.  It is hard for both candidates to consider themselves 'compassionate' when they advocate the crushing of a child's head moments before it is born."
