New Book Highlights Great Cathedrals of the World

VENICE, Fla., Sept. 17, 2019 /Standard Newswire/ -- Some people travel to experience new adventures, explore new cultures or just relax on vacation. KB Cook has traveled during the past 40 years to visit and photograph some of the world's most well-known and not-so-well known cathedrals, and he has now compiled his work into a magnificent coffee-table style photobook.

"Cathedrals to the Glory of God" features 350 cathedrals plus significant churches, captured on camera by Cook during his travels to the European continent and the Americas.

"I hope that by sharing this collection of photographs that the spirituality and awe of many of these buildings inspire the viewer to think again of the history, to which the Christian Church, in its various manifestations, has participated." Cook says.

Cook, a retired IT professional, who now lives in Southwest Florida, visited his first cathedral as child, when his grandfather took him to St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. His passion for exploring these magnificent edifices continues to this day.

The photos in "Cathedrals to the Glory of God" were collected on cycling trips in Western Europe, crossing the United States, on Caribbean cruises, and travels near and far.

"During my travels, I marveled at the different approaches builder-architects have taken over the millennium," Cook says.

His pictures capture many elements and invite the viewer to seek further, to plan their own visits. These journeys may involve travel, or can be done online or in videos, but being there is best.

"As we have witnessed, human-caused and natural disasters can harm these edifices, so photography is yet one more method to record these beautiful structures for posterity and in our own memories," Cook adds.

The book is organized by country, color photographs are displayed in full page format in most cases, and include some anecdotes along the way.

When relocating from California to Southwest Florida, Cook took 38 days, drove 6500 miles and visited and photographed more than 60 cathedrals.

The book features over four hundred color photos carefully selected from Cook's archives and displayed artfully. The 12-inch by 12-inch photobook with 348 heavy stock pages has been printed in a limited edition. He continues to travel, researching that next cathedral to photograph as he feeds his passion.
