Apostolate Launches New Online Learning Tool
School of Apologetics prepares Catholics to defend the Faith

Dec. 10, 2019

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 10, 2019 /Standard Newswire/ -- For over thirty years, Catholic Answers has led the way in defending and explaining the Catholic faith. Now, with the debut of its School of Apologetics, it will bring those decades of knowledge and experience into people's homes.

This major new learning system combines top-quality video, helpful print and online resources, and the expertise of Catholic Answers' staff apologists into a comprehensive program that will equip its students to understand—and to explain to skeptics—Catholic beliefs about God, the Church, sexuality, the Bible, and more.

"The time is right," says Catholic Answers senior apologist Jimmy Akin, the school's dean. "We have been planning this for years, and now the technology has finally gotten to the point where we can offer the easy-to-access online video courses we've always wanted to."

Students will be able to stream video of the class sessions, review study guides, and take tests all on their computer or mobile device, at a pace customized for their learning level and life circumstances. (For students who prefer physical media, the courses will also be available on DVDs with printed study guides.) "As the course list grows," adds Akin, "students will be able to work toward a certification in apologetics," sure to be of interest to catechists, seminarians, and others engaged in or preparing for educational ministry.

Akin teaches the first course, Beginning Apologetics, comprising seven hours of lectures and designed as a thorough introduction to the basics of defending the Faith. Soon to follow will be courses on morality, Scripture, Catholic philosophy, the Fathers, and other related topics—all presented with the aim of helping Catholics "make a defense" for the hope that is in them (1 Pet. 3:15).
