Judicial Watch Statement on Court Ruling Denying Access to Osama bin Laden's Burial Details

Contact: Jill Farrell, Judicial Watch, 202-646-5188

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20, 2013 /Standard Newswire/ -- Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton issued a statement today in response to the ruling of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, which granted summary judgment to the U.S. Department of the Navy, thereby denying Judicial Watch access to the details regarding the burial of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden (Judicial Watch v. Dept. of the Navy (No. 1:12-cv-01182)):

"FOIA is being turned on its head by the Obama administration. Osama bin Laden's funeral at sea is a military secret? Absurd. And it is a growing problem that our courts continue to endorse the Obama administration's dangerous arguments that our transparency laws be ignored because releasing information to the American people might offend terrorists. Appeasing terrorists by ignoring our transparency laws is bad policy and is an attack on the rule of law."

On January 18, 2013, the Navy filed the motion for summary judgment on Judicial Watch's July 18, 2012, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit that sought access to the details regarding the Osama bin Laden.
