Joint Missions Initiative Helps Churches, Colleges Become Mission Active

Contact: Rachel Elwood, Media Relations, World Gospel Mission, 765-671-7255, mediarelations@wgm.org

MEDIA ADVISORY, Aug. 11 /Standard Newswire/ -- Most Christians recognize that spreading the Gospel is an essential part of their faith, but figuring out how to integrate missions into individual churches, Christian colleges and other organizations can be challenging. That is why two missions agencies have teamed up to launch a program to help Christian leaders chart missions plans for their organizations.

World Gospel Mission, a missionary-sending agency based in Marion, Indiana, is partnering with the Mission Society to provide a resource called Global Outreach Weekends. Based on the Bible verse Acts 1:8 "And you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth," these two-day seminars work with pastors and leaders to determine a missions plan for their particular church or institution.

"One college we are working with is struggling to help students realize that just because they don't feel called to international missions doesn't mean they get a pass on the Great Commission," said Todd Eckhardt, director for Partnership Development. "They want to broaden the emphasis of their missions week to include all areas of missions, not just international."

The Acts 1:8 model translates "Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth" into local ministry in a church or college's city, ministry in the United States, outreach to an unloved people group, and international missions -- all of which are necessary to give a full understanding of missions. This model encourages churches and institutions to partner with a variety of organizations.

"The Global Outreach Weekend is just the beginning," said Eckhardt. "It's the start of reshaping the missions focus, and helping congregations or students understand that a mission isn’t just something that can be pushed to the side."

World Gospel Mission welcomes the opportunity to help churches and institutions develop missions programs. For more information, please contact Todd Eckhardt at (765) 671-7210.
