Court Hearing for Doctor in 'Gender-Abortion' Case

LONDON, Dec. 4, 2014 /Standard Newswire/ -- A doctor accused of offering illegal 'gender-abortion' is due to appear before a court in Manchester at 10:00 tomorrow (05 DEC). It is believed to be the first time that a case of this kind has come to court in the UK and is the result of a rare private prosecution.
It follows a controversial decision last year by the Crown Prosecution Service to drop the case despite finding that there was sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction.
Dr. Prabha Sivaraman has been summoned to appear before Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court to face a charge of conspiracy to procure an unlawful abortion. She was caught offering abortion on the grounds of gender, during an undercover investigation by a national newspaper in 2012.
However, after a lengthy police investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service took the surprising decision not to proceed with the case - despite finding that there was sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction, claiming that prosecution was 'not in the public interest'. The decision not to prosecute attracted widespread criticism from across the political spectrum.
In October 2014 after months of preparation, 21 year old Aisling Hubert (photo hi-res version) launched a private prosecution of Dr Sivaraman and a second doctor in Birmingham. Miss Hubert is supported by the Christian Legal Centre.
